Metal types and Plating

Here at Carbon and Coal we specialise in high quality, luxurious affordable fashion jewellery. Our items are bathed in the finest AAA or higher grade cubic zirconias and coated in a rhodium finish and other plantings to ensure the longevity, quality and style for our Diamonds (customers) at affordable prices.

 

Jewellery Plating -  Plating is  a cover applied on the surface of a metallic item such as jewellery. Its used to stop or slow the process of corrosion, to improve wear ability, and to decorate and embellish jewelry.

 

Cubic Zirconia - Our conflict free alternative to diamonds are mesmerising, luxurious and best of all affordable. This man made material is hard, optically flawless and comes in an array of colours. It's Made by using Zirconium in its powdered form with other elements placed under extreme heat. It is cut in the same shapes and designs as a diamond to replicate a diamond almost exactly all this leads to the beautifully made and almost as hard as a diamond, the cubic zironcia.

Rhodium Coating - Over 90% of our items are coated in rhodium it is a silver-white hard metal.  It is the most expensive precious metal. It is used as an alloy in the smelting of platinum and palladium. Rhodium plating is a metal deposition process  which adds a protective layer of rhodium to our jewellery. Rhodium it imparts an extremely bright and hard wearing finish when applied. When applied as a thin plate, it affords a durable finish of exceptional brightness and finish.  Rhodium finishes greatly enhances the appearance and longevity of any jewellery to which they are applied to.

 

Yellow Gold -Yellow gold plating is a method of depositing a  layer of gold onto the surface of the base metal i.e. copper. the plating comes in various thicknesses depending on the type of Jewelry. Rings for example are usually plated with at least 2 Microns or more as the item is exposed to harsher environment i.e. soap, frictions, perfumes and lotions. Yellow gold coating is durable.

White Gold - White gold is an alloy (mix of metals) of gold mixed with other white metals such as palladium. The result is a grey-coloured gold. In order to give the gold a white tone, it is plated with rhodium. Rhodium is extremely  hard wearing, it's  a beautiful lustrous material.

Sterling Silver - Sterling silver is an alloy (mix of metals) of silver and other metals, usually copper .Pure silver is generally too soft for everyday wear. For this reason, Copper is alloyed with silver to give it strength while preserving the metal and its beauty.
Rose Gold Plating - Rose gold also lays reference  to Pink Gold, is a gold and copper alloy. A common alloy composition for rose gold is 75% gold and 25% copper, making up 18 karat rose gold. There is no "pure" rose gold, since it is an alloy of gold and copper. The more copper, the more intense and strong the "rose" color will be. Laid on a copper base metal and plated with a rhodium plating to ensure the longevity of the item.
